V irtually as long as there have been armies to wage war, there have been scouts to help guide the generals. At one time, scouting in the SCA was a once-a-year endeavour undertaken by the few and the keen at the great Pennsic War. Since then, Scouts have popped up all over, on the battlefield and off, as a year-round tradition that has often proven itself invaluable to the fighters on the field. These pages are provided as a resource for anyone aspiring to become a scout and for those looking to further develop their scouts and scouting skills — both here in Ealdormere and throughout the Knowne World. Not only is scouting a great way to introduce newcomers to the excitement of the SCA battlefield, but it can be a lot of fun and a great way for those that don't wish to become fully armoured fighters to participate in one of the primary pastimes of the SCA. The bulk of the information here is provided on the pages devoted to our Kingdom's Scout’s Handbook, but there are still many other resources available.
